Toyota is hoping that its new 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid vehicle will be well received well by the people who are concerned about polluting the environment and also by those who do not like the fact that the United Stats is so dependent on foreign countries to supply our oil. Considering the American people’s love affair with the automobile, creating a hybrid on it best selling Camry platform is good sound business.
The new 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid is a little more of a jazzed up version of the older model. They really had no choice except to dress up the new model Camry. For the first time they have some real competition from the Honda and Ford hybrid entries into this class of vehicles.
Since the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid buyers consist mostly of younger, high earning professional people, the competition in this market is fierce.
Is this new 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid a radical departure from its predecessors? Not really, its eyebrow headlights, high shoulders and high rear deck coupled with its thick waist is not exactly a design breakthrough nor a radical departure from the past but it is an attractive and functional vehicle.
The cab in the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid is a little larger, extremely comfortable, well designed and has a bunch of handy storage bins for stowing away all the things we typically keep in the car. The top of the line model has reclining rear seats. The console and the center instrument panel are finished in a translucent blue that reminds me of the blue originally seen on the first Apple iMac model. The overall effect is to create an attractive instrument panel without having to resort to fake wood or fake aluminum.
The 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid comes with Toyotas Hybrid Synergy Drive power train. The engine model in the Camry is a much heavier duty model that the one used in the Prius. The 2.4 liter engine uses the Atkinson style longer expansion stroke pistons to create a higher efficiency gasoline internal combustion engine. This is combined with a 45 horsepower electric motor. Together they can deliver up to 192 hp. The 3,637 pound 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid is a little sluggish if you try to turn a sharp corner too quickly but in normal driving conditions it has a smooth power delivery.
Toyota claims the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid can go from 0 to 60 mph in 8.9 seconds. The EPA estimates 37 mpg for city and 43 mpg for highway driving. It also comes with an “eco” switch that will temporarily lessen the air conditioner’s output so you can get better mileage. If you get the high energy heat absorbing window glass, this can work quite well.
The new 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid is no longer the same old plain jane car but is also nowhere near as bold as Toyota would like you to believe. The 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid has all of the quality, reliability , refinement, safety and value that you have come to expect from Toyota. Perhaps an inspired new design is lurking somewhere in the near future.
